Mill

Taken in my teens, this picture was one of a series on mills in Northamptonshire, visited by bicycle. I was shooting against the light on a Leica IIIa; the old 50mm f/3.5 Elmar lens is sharp but uncoated, so there's a lot of flare at the top of the picture; for old times' sake I decided against correcting it when preparing it for this site. The main thing I remember about the print – at 12" x 10" it was my biggest print to date, and seemed huge – is that there's an awful scratch across the centre of the neg and I spent hours trying to retouch it!  A couple of good technical lessons for me.
