John Sandell ARPS

‘A Grand Tour’

This copiously illustrated and not-too-musical talk will recall John's five-week journey by train through Germany, Austria and the Czech Republic, presenting many photographic highlights as well as some of the practical problems of photo-touring. Hopefully there will be time to talk about photo equipment and image handling when away from home.

John has been a member of Hertford and District Camera Club since the early 1970s, and spent many years working in the audio-visual industry.

In the autumn of 2008, John travelled through central Europe to visit and photograph towns and cities with musical connections – such as Bonn (where Beethoven was born); Salzburg (where Mozart was born); and Vienna (where Beethoven, Mozart, the Strauss family and many other musicians made their musical names).

In Saxony – south-west of Berlin – he went to Eisenach, Weimar, Köthen and Leipzig (where the great J S Bach was born, lived, worked and died); and in the Czech Republic to Prague for Antonin Dvořák.
